Product design is a strong point of focus in the work and career of Jake Messing. His work in apparel, and the fashion and skateboard industry are covered in other sections of the site to make room for his corporate product design. This work spans from OEM fusions to full ODM product design requiring open toolings, and entirely new ways of printing and manufacturing. The corporate side includes extensive work in sporting goods whereas the creative director and lead designer for AND1 Basketball, David Ortiz Baseball, Umbro Soccer, and a number of other sporting goods brands. Jake Messing has also been designing and tooling his own insoles for over a decade, which led to more product design in footwear. Other areas vary from audio, and tech to extensive ODM design of hydration. To site one example, over 25 million of Jake’s AND1 Basketballs have sold internationally over the last decade, effectively transforming it to the number three ranked brand globally along with the other industry leaders such as Wilson and Spalding. It should also be noted that all sporting goods designed by Jake Messing feature his original artwork, from paintings to drawings, and handmade graphics. He also created many of the printing and manufacturing processes in collaboration with the factory technicians to achieve these effects.

Jake Messing’s focus on product design has shifted strongly to clothing and footwear for a number of major brands which are highlighted in the apparel section. While still maintaining a strong bond with sporting goods trends and manufacturing, Jake looks to the future with the goal to continue to contribute to fashion and culture. His work in fine art and street art has also played a large role in the print and style applications to product design. Jake’s passion for racing and automotive culture also cannot go unnoticed as it’s played a large role in the way he approaches art, design and the marketing of these works. Above all is an understanding and respect of brand identity, and bringing innovation both in design and efficacy to every product he designs.
