Art

The latest series of works have been largely collage despite much of Jake Messing’s past being a mixture of paintings, drawings, prints, and interdisciplinary media. The collages include primarily antique magazine images combined with much older references that create a juxtaposition between the old and new, consumerism and mythology. This is displayed in the repeated use of the satellite as the modern halo above Mary.

Jake Messing fuses together referential and invented imagery, graffiti, commercial, and fine art to communicate something familiar yet genre-shattering and transgressive. He draws on a range of influences including the psycodelic era, mythology, surrealism, horror, and cultural detritus to create a unique visual language.
